Kanga is here to support both professionals and DIY enthusiasts with expert guidance for installing Kanga attached cushion carpets. Explore our step-by-step guides and discover helpful tips to ensure a smooth, efficient, and successful installation:
Acclimation:
- Allow the carpet to acclimate to the room environment where it will be installed. A typical acclimation will take around two hours but can take up to twenty-four hours, depending on the carpet style and current weather conditions.
- To ensure proper adjustment, unroll the carpet face-up in the room where it will be installed.
- If the carpet has been stored in or is being moved into a cooler environment (below 65°F), it will need additional time to acclimate fully.
Installation:
- After acclimation, the Kanga carpet is ready to be cut to fit the room; no stretching or tack strip is required, as the cushion is already attached at the factory, creating a stabilized product.
- Fold one-half of the carpet back over itself, exposing the floor surface, and apply a premium multi-purpose adhesive in a 9 to 12-inch wide path around the perimeter of the room.
- Next, apply adhesive from each corner of the room to the middle, forming a “V” toward the center of the room. Fold the carpet back into the adhesive, smoothing it out from the center and moving it toward the walls. Then, repeat the process for the other half of the room.
Seams:
- Allow at least two inches of the carpet to overlap for seams. Depending on the styling or construction of the carpet, the seams may need to be made first.
- If the new carpet is a Cut-Pile or Cut-Loop style, row cut the first side of the seam, and trace cut the other side of the seam.
- If the new carpet is a Straight-Loop or Berber style, cut both sides of the seam with a row cut.
- If necessary, use hot melt seaming tape; the Kanga backing will not melt or break down when used with seaming irons.
- Don’t forget the high-quality water-based seam sealer (Do not use solvent-based seam sealers); the KangaBACK attached cushion system allows for easy application with the nozzle of the seam sealer bottle.
